Screw-Saver was invented to quickly and easily enable a user to make precisely fitting screwdrivers for hex drive and slotted screws to avoid buggered screws. Hex-Allen Drivers and Hex-Allen Socket Screws are notorious for sloppy manufacturing tolerances which are the primary cause of stripping. The solution to both problems is making your own drivers with ScrewSaver.

The fields of firearms, horology and metrology which are infamous for non-standard proprietary screw slot sizes. Screwdriver sets for gunsmiths are pricey, break, and contain only the "popular" sizes. Driver sets for slots less than .020" are non-existent due to breakage. There are hundreds of proprietary slot sizes for which no driver is available. As a result many screws are ragged up by a misfitting store bought driver or poorly shaped and burned drivers ground by hand. A friend, a certain member of a prominent gunmakers guild, and among very best makers of hand ground screwdrivers was amazed how much accuracy increased, burning eliminated, and parallel in 3 planes while grinding a .005" blade when using the Screw-Saver. Screw-Saver eliminates all those issues; sloppy fit, burning, not parallel, and availability of the proper driver. Perfect drivers can be ground from any screwdriver or hex bit. Gunsmiths, Horologists, Metrologists have need of precision slotted flat screwdrivers to eliminate damage and preserve the aesthetics of fine mechanisms. Slotted/Flat screwdrivers can be ground to .001"± accuracy.

Techs servicing robotics, RC Models, aerospace, cars, trucks, motorcycle, ORV, ATV and snowmobiles that utilize the Allen wrench, aka hex drive, who are plagued with sloppy fitting drivers can make sets of "plus size" hex drivers to eliminate stripping of hex sockets. In addition, oversized tapered drivers can be made to remove screws with wallowed out sockets negating the need to "drill them out" and risk of damaging the "seat" if drilling/machining them out. Users can also make custom length drivers from a suitable screwdriver or steel rod. Hex drivers can be ground to .002"± accuracy.

Utilizing standard carbide burrs or our proprietary purpose engineered W187 mounted points/stones (two of each are included), the design makes it possible to shape screwdrivers without burning the steel. A high quality ball bearing 3 jaw keyless chuck was designed and made especially for Screw-Saver accommodates screwdriver shafts with Round, Hex, and Square shanks from .025" up to 3/8" round and 5/16 hex. The custom ER-16 collet chuck holds up to 5/16" square shanks; and hex or round shanks as small as .020" - 1mm.

All models of the Screw-Saver machines are made with high quality materials from the 954 Alum. Bronze feed nut to the stainless steel screws to the 1/4" thick clear polycarbonate Lexan guards. ScrewSaver Review:

As a gunsmith, 42 years in the trade, I am constantly searching Ebay for parts for old guns and used old gunsmith tools when I ran across this Screw-Saver portable machine. Working on old guns I am constantly reshaping and modifying screwdrivers to properly fit screw heads. I had been using a machinist Vee block mounted in a mill vise with a carbide bur or stones to modify screwdriver blades. With a dividing head I could even modify Phillips and Allen bits. It was time consuming for sure.

Being a tool nut, I am always looking for a better, efficient and quicker way to accomplish these tool tasks or just better quality tools. Then I ran across this Screw-Saver portable machine on Ebay. I studied all the pictures and watched the videos of the Screw-Saver in action and all it could do. I never buy anything on the spur of the moment so I slept on it overnight and I ordered the complete Screw-Saver package the next day. I then ordered the recommended Makita Router as recommended by the Screw-Saver description in their literature. Then I waited for the packages to arrive at the shop.

On arrival I setup the unit and installed the Makita Router with the carbide bur per the excellent instructions and put it to the test. I was not disappointed! I spent the next hour and a half dressing all the broken slotted screwdrivers (about 25 screwdrivers) that I had in the broken tool box on the bench. Damn, I was impressed! I have not seen a machine that is small & portable that will grind screwdriver slotted blades to precise thicknesses anywhere before. The machine is top quality workmanship.

The ability to shape a custom screwdriver blade to fit an application on the work bench quickly is a real benefit to a gunsmith. Time is money as the saying goes. A few days later I had one of those backyard scope installed guns in the shop with stripped out Allen head screws in the rings. I was able to grind an oversized Allen bit to fit tightly in the stripped heads and removed them easily. Awesome machine!

Value: For the money and worth every penny, there is no other portable screwdriver shaping machine that is relatively simple to use, shapes screwdrivers & Allen precisely without burning the steel turning it blue and quickly on the market that I have found. I will recommend this Screw-Saver machine to my fellow gunsmiths and anyone who needs to shape drivers to fit precise applications. This is a homerun!
