Description

This is a scarce Sharp brand hatchet, made by Tak Fukuta circa 1970s in Seki, Japan. Sharp was the original Kmart knife brand. This is a great quality hatchet with a 1/8" thick blade made of 440 stainless. It features a wood handle with nickel silver pins and a hefty aluminum pommel that is curved to keep it in your hand while using. Comes with a sturdy leather sheath. Tak Fukuta was the first Japanese member of the American Knife Maker's Guild, and apprentice to Bob Loveless. He hand crafted fine quality knives that impressed his mentor. Over the years, his factory in Seki, Japan also produced knives for Parker, Valor, Gutmann, Explorer, Frost, and Browning among others. After his passing, several vintage old stock models were found at his warehouse. This is one of these rare finds.
